WACKEN

“This is literally the biggest thing that has ever happened to me, my Zombie brothers, and the South African Metal Scene. I am saying this literally minutes after finding out that we’ve won. My mind is a mess and my heart is elated. Myself and the lads are struggling to process this still. South Africa, we have just written ourselves into metal history! Thank you so much for supporting us with such fervent loyalty. This is not the endgame, this is the start.” ~ Adriano Rodrigues (guitar/writer, Zombies Ate My Girlfriend)

Zombies Ate My Girlfriend first participated in the Wacken Metal Battle in 2013 when the competition opened to South Africa for it’s first year where even as a new band, they made it through to the South African finals. However, the time was not right for them in that year where the local victors, Infanteria, made it through instead. This year, Zombies Ate My Girfriend which incidentally includes two members also from Infanteria, slid through the local heats effortlessly into the finals and beyond. -Metal4Africa

Zombies ate my Girlfriend was formed in 2012. It’s band members include:
Gavin Marchbank – Vocals
Adriano Rodrigues – Guitar
Chris Hall – Guitar
Marc Olwage – Bass
Ferdi Groenewald – Drums

With the release of their debut EP ‘Patient Zero’, the lad’s set about solidifying their place in the South African metal scene. In 2015 they rightfully claimed their place as one of South Africa’s top metal bands with the release of ‘Retrocide’, their first full length album release.

Last year also saw the band pick up two awards. The South African Metal Music Awards 2015 (Best Core) and the African Metal Award for Outstanding delivery and quality. Performance highlights for last year include Protest the Hero South African tour, Krank’d Up Music Festival 2015, Retrocide album launch, Metal4Africa.com Summerfest 2015 and The Darkest Hour South African tour.

The line-up draws from a wide spectrum of talents. Boasting a mix of members from current and previously acclaimed bands. Focused on the future, the band is currently beginning the writing process for album number two, thus far set for a 2017 release.
